The Daydreaming Dog and the Mysterious Flying Object

The sun shone brightly on a perfectly ordinary afternoon. Wanpon, a dog lounging comfortably on a park bench, stared blankly into space, his mouth slightly open, a little pink tongue peeking out. There wasn't anything particularly interesting in his line of sight. The gentle spring sunshine was simply too pleasant, and he seemed to be surrendering himself to a light doze.

A two-panel cartoon of a yellow dog with a blank expression and its tongue sticking out slightly. In the background of both panels, a small, cartoonish UFO with a pink arrow pointing to it flies by unnoticed by the dog.

Just behind Wanpon, only a few meters above him, a small, silver, shining object silently glided by. It looked just like the classic UFOs you see in children's drawings. Slowly but surely, it passed over Wanpon's head and eventually disappeared behind the park trees.

However, our dear Wanpon remained completely oblivious to this arguably earth-shattering event. His attention was likely preoccupied with the thought of his owner throwing a ball next, or perhaps his dinner. Or maybe, he wasn't thinking about anything at all. Just spacing out.

Perhaps we humans aren't so different from Wanpon. Caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, don't we often miss the small miracles or the signs of significant changes happening right beside us? We might be too engrossed in our smartphone screens to notice the sky changing color or that the person sitting next to us got a haircut.

The filter of everyday life can sometimes cloud our vision. Events that seem too "unbelievable" might be pushed out of our awareness, even if they happen right before our eyes – much like the UFO was for Wanpon. Nevertheless, the world probably keeps spinning in amusing and slightly mysterious ways, in places we don't even notice. And so, with such thoughts, we too drift through our respective daily lives, often just spacing out.
