Hello bright souls! Today, I'm sharing an acrylic painting filled with warmth, titled simply 『太陽』 (Taiyou), meaning "Sun." Created sometime between 2002 and 2007, this piece reflects on the blessings we receive from the sun, often without even consciously realizing it – perhaps much like the little cat featured here.
Dominating the scene is a large, friendly sun, beaming with a gentle smile and radiating warm, inviting rays. Look closely, and you might see faint, intriguing patterns on its face, adding a touch of ancient mystery. Below, a colourful, patchwork-like path or bridge curves across the landscape, dotted with cheerful green trees. And perched right there, seemingly enjoying the atmosphere, is a small black cat.
My thought behind this illustration was about basking in the sun's blessings – the light, the warmth, the energy it gives to all living things. We humans often appreciate sunny days, but I started thinking about the cat. Does the cat consciously think, "Ah, I am receiving the sun's blessings"? Probably not in those exact terms! Yet, perhaps unconsciously, it feels the gentle warmth, the pleasantness of the light, and senses the sun as a kind, benevolent presence in its world. Maybe the cat simply accepts this warmth as a natural, comforting part of its day, a quiet source of goodness it doesn't need to analyze. The cat isn't looking directly at the sun, but seems aware of its overarching presence.
This painting celebrates that quiet, often unspoken connection between living beings and the natural forces that sustain us. It’s about appreciating the simple, fundamental gifts, like the warmth of the sun on a peaceful day. The vibrant colours and the almost whimsical landscape aim to create a feeling of gentle joy and harmony.
