Hello everyone, and welcome back! Today's acrylic piece, created sometime between 2002 and 2007, is titled 『鳥と唄う世界』 (Tori to Utau Sekai), meaning "A World Singing with Birds." Looking back at this illustration, I wonder if it might represent one of my earliest explorations of depicting trees in my characteristic style, though my memory isn't perfectly clear on that! What I do recall from that period is my deep appreciation for the work of Hundertwasser and a love for drawing nature and its organic, flowing lines.

In this piece, we see floating islands or platforms, decorated with cheerful checkerboard patterns in red/yellow and blue/yellow. Upon these platforms grow wonderfully stylized trees – tall, slender yellow trunks topped with vibrant green lollipop-like canopies. Tiny dots, perhaps representing leaves, energy, or musical notes, float around them and drift off into the space above. A small figure in red stands on one platform, seemingly observing the scene, while a little yellow bird perches atop one of the trees.
Does the title "A World Singing with Birds" suggest a place filled with harmony and birdsong? The upward-reaching trees and the floating dots certainly give a feeling of lightness and perhaps rising melodies. The simple, bold forms and bright colours echo that joy. Reflecting on my love for Hundertwasser's style back then, I can see echoes in the rejection of rigid straight lines and the embrace of organic shapes and vibrant colour combinations. There's a certain playful energy in how these natural elements are represented, living together on their colourful floating homes. Perhaps this was an early step in developing my own visual language for expressing the beauty and whimsy I find in nature.
The figure stands calmly amidst it all, maybe listening to the 'singing' of this world, being a part of its gentle rhythm. The connection between the figure, the bird, and the unique trees creates a sense of a self-contained, peaceful ecosystem.
A Gentle Invitation for Your Reflection:
What kind of melody or song do you imagine hearing in this 'World Singing with Birds'?
Do certain artists or styles inspire the way you see the natural world?
What do the floating dots (green, red, yellow) signify to you in this picture?
Thank you for exploring this memory, however hazy, with me. It's fascinating to revisit older work and see the potential seeds of later styles. I hope this cheerful little world brought a smile to your face.
Wishing you a harmonious day,
